Foto 8 has its best and worst of 2009 Right at the bottom, in the worst, they have this: Edward Burtynsky for suggesting we pay him $25,000 for a HOST gallery talk on Oil.
No kidding - they have Rena Effendi up on the homepage though. And Christien Meindertsma's Pig book gets a look in - but 3 out of 27 (in the books) ain't great.
That TV extravaganza about the history of photography had no women in it either. Oh maybe Egglestone's wife.
So many magnificent women in photography's history, as photographers, and also editors, curators, collectors. PLUS it seems women are in the majority in photography schools nowadays.

Thorn in my side: Foto 8 for barely including any women in their best of lists. For shame.

3 out of 27 and not a single woman in the Bright Sparks category. Not sure Rena Effendi can make up for the oversight...
And one out of the two gender-specific in the worst of section...
And they are very broad nominations. But London, like many big cities, is extremely parochial - perhaps that's why.

Don't stick up for them, Colin.
I'm not sticking up for them especially, Brenda - but my interest in the post is the Ed Burtynsky comment.
