"...which man could kick my ass and which female I would like to fuck"

"The first thing I do when I walk into a room is figure out which man could kick my ass and which female I would like to fuck. Sometimes this is so subconscious it is alarming."

What does it mean to be a man? Here are some of the answers from  Chad States' Masculinities.
My favourite is the one above.
"I consider myself to be masculine because I spent time in the Marine Corps, I work out, I have a mohawk, I have tattoos. I'm a tattoo artist, I cuss a lot and that's all I can think of right now."

"I am masculine because I abandon women after taking their love. Because when you study Freud you don't let him study you. Because I study philosophy, not literature."

See more pictures at Chad States' Masculinities and check out his Cruising series as well.

So then: What does it mean to be a man?
Do post an answer below.

And a woman: What does it mean to be a woman?

Yipes! I'm at work, so I'm afraid to look at the rest of 'em, truth is- I'd be afraid to look at them at home. My own sex creeping me out! I'm hoping at least some of these are not so stereotypical- although I'm afraid so many of us are...

PS- And I certainly hope there are no more full frontal color shots sitting on their living room furniture. That's why god created B&W, and underwear.

Thanks Stan - there are some more full frontal shots. I think the first answer is great (and he does mention it is on a subconscious level - up to a point).

If these are stereotypical, what does it mean to be a man?

On a more serious note, one of the things I tried to emphasize to my students was that a real man led by example, was secure enough in his masculinity to admit when he was wrong, and had the guts to then try and make it right.

It usually fell on deaf ears since masculinity is so often now identified simply with predatory behavior, and little else.... Being that anything else is identified as weakness (ie- very unmasculine).
